The bustling energy and vibrant atmosphere made each visit an adventure. Here, I discovered unique ingredients like betel leaves, Thai eggplants, and fresh herbs that became staples in my cooking.

Thai cuisine, with its vibrant flavors, rich history, and deep cultural significance, is a treasure that I am proud to share. Many years ago, I basked in the sultry heat of a Phuket afternoon, nestled on the deck of our family home in Thailand. I read an article in the Bangkok Post that sparked my interest in learning about my ancestors. What motivated them to act - fear of discrimination, pursuit of religious freedom, or something else?

 How had they endured the untamed wilderness and, more significantly, what had driven the Burright family to the precipice of war, where they would willingly shed their blood and make the ultimate sacrifice?

The reservoirs of my family’s history, comprising family Bibles, aging news clippings, the oral traditions passed down through generations, and a book penned by my great aunts became my guides in crafting “America Calling”. I have taken the liberty to weave historical accounts and context alongside the fragments of my family’s legacy to imbue this narrative with depth and vibrancy, thus becoming a work of fictional history.
